Description

About this event:

The Ottawa Job Match Network (OJMN) is a provincially-funded bridge training program to accelerate the integration of internationally educated professionals into the Ottawa economy. Each month, we deliver an intensive 5-day career transition workshop to our most job-ready 20-30 clients in four areas:

  • Business Administration/Management

  • Applied Science

  • Social Sciences

  • Public Administration

Each workshop culminates in an Employer Event/Targeted Recruitemnt Event on the last day. At these events employer representatives / coaches meet hand-picked clients with backgrounds in the employer’s field. These events are not job fairs, although some hires have resulted. They are information fairs: outreach events for employers to meet this untapped pool of highly skilled professionals who aspire to re-starting their careers in their field.

Purposes:

The purposes of the event for employers/recruiters/coaches are to:

  • Meet 25-30 of our top clients who aspire to work in the specific sector, with a view to meeting potential talent.

  • Describe/promote your organization to our staff, as well as our clients, so we have a better idea of your talent requirements.

  • Provide career coaching advice to our clients on where/how else they should look for work in or related to their field.

  • Network with other employers in their sector, i.e. possible customers, clients or suppliers.

The Event:

The event has two parts as outlined below. Participating employers can opt for one or both sessions.

Morning

9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. : Presentations

(4-5 presentations of 15-20 minutes, including questions)

10:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. : Break

10:45a.m. – 12:00 noon : Coaching session

(6-7 one-on-one 10-minute coaching sessions)

Afternoon

1:00 p.m. – 1:45p.m. : Targeted Recruitment

(2 – 3 presentations about each participating company)

1:45 p.m. – 4:00.p.m. : 10 minute interviews with potential candidates

Employer Participation:

Employer representatives participate in three ways:

  • Presenter: As a presenter you would give a short (15-20 minute) presentation on your organization and the domain/industry it is part of, labour market information (present and anticipated career opportunities), and career streams, talent requirements (e.g. desired competencies beyond the technical), recruitment methods, etc.

  • Coach: The coaching role is like a “slow dating” type event in which you would meet the clients interested in your organization/domain, give them feedback on how to better present themselves on paper and in person, and some advice on where and how they could be looking for work in their field. (Please see Coaching Guidelines).

  • Recruiter: The recruiting role is to meet potential candidates who could be hired in your company in the future. You will have the opportunity to meet with them for a ten minute interview which will help to set the stage for a more in depth interview.

If you are interested in being a presenter, coach or recruiter, kindly contact Andy@ottawa-worldskills.org or sign up for a ticket below. We will get in contact with you.
