Course Description:
This course provides a comprehensive overview of financial and managerial accounting, covering topics such as assests, liabilities, and double-entry bookkeeping. Participants will gain practical skills in bookkeeping, financial reporting, and budgeting, making it an ideal starting point for individuals aspiring to enter a career in Canadian finance or business. No prior accounting knowledge is required, making this course accessible and beneficial for those new to the field.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the Accounting Essentials course(4-weeks), students will be able to perform all steps of the accounting cycle which inclues:
- Journalizing transactions in chronological order in the general journal
- Posting transactions in the general ledger
- Preparing the trial balance
- Performing adjusting entries at the end of the fiscal period
- Preparing the worksheet
- Preparing the income statement
- Preparing the balance sheet
- Preparing closing entries
By the end of the QuickBooks Desktop course(4-weeks), students will be able to perform all steps of the accounting cycle which inclues:
- Company/partnership/Sole trader set up in QuickBooks
- Getting around the home page drop down menus, icon toolbar and navigator windows
- Transaction entries (cash sales, cheques, invoices)
- Setting up customers and suppliers (A/R and A/P)
- Bank reconciliations
- Chart of accounts, journal entries
- Trial balance, income statements and balance sheets
- Accounting for GST/HST
- Inventory set-up
- Backing up and restoring data
- Setting QuickBooks preferences
About the Instructor
Nabila Nosseir is a Certified Teacher from Ontario College of Teachers. An accounting professional with over 14 years experience at the university level. Nabila has Masters in Accounting and Management Science.
Prerequites and Recommendations:
Please ensure that you meet the QuickBooks Desktop Premier 2023 minimum system requirements before registering for the course. It is highly recommended that you purchase a subscription of QuickBooks Desktop Premier for the duration of the course.
Accounting Essentials and QuickBooks Desktop Certification:
The certificate will be issued by Skills for Change. Skills for Change (Career Skills) is a recognized training institution by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
Tax Receipt
Skills for Change offers tax receipts for your tax returns. The Canadian could refund you for all or part of the course payment when you file your taxes.
Refund Policy:
Clients may cancel their registration for a course at any time. Refunds will be issued on a pro-rata basis, taking into account the unattended portion of the course. Refund amount will be calculated based on the percentage of the course duration that remains unused at the time of cancellation. Transaction fees (e.g., Eventbrite fees) will not be refunded. Refunds take 7 to 30 business days to be processed.
