From #YouthinCare to #YouthinCharge:  A Youth-partnered documentary short about advocacy in the Canadian Child Welfare System.

<h3>Please join us for a virtual screening of the youth-partnered documentary film: For Those Who Come Next, followed by a discussion panel with youth from the film. </h3>With the ongoing system strains of the pandemic, it is more important now than ever to prioritize the safety and wellness of young people in our community--including children and youth in and from the child welfare system. This screening and discussion panel is being presented by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), HeART Lab, and the Child and Youth Permanency Council of Canada. It is an opportunity for youth, families, community members, service providers, policy-makers, and researchers to connect about this very important topic. <ul><li>Participate in a virtual screening of the documentary short (28 minutes in length)</li><li>Meet 5 of the youth advocates who partnered on this film </li><li>Engage in the panel discussion and have the opportunity to ask questions</li><li>Listen to urgent recommendations for change and learn directly from youth who grew up in the Canadian child welfare system</li><li>Become an advocate--It will take all of us to prevent childhood maltreatment and adversity and ensure that youth do not grow up in care</li></ul><h3>ABOUT &quot;FOR THOSE WHO COME NEXT&quot;: </h3>Growing up in the Canadian child welfare system, these youth experienced many adversities. But, with the support of programs and community, they built resilience by connecting with their strengths. Now they’re using their stories and experiences to make change.In this documentary short, you meet Brigitte, Jess, Kaygan, Princess, Rachelle, Susan, and Zo, who participated in national programs created by the Child and Youth Permanency Council of Canada (CYPCC), formerly the Adoption Council of Canada (ACC), in collaboration with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health: Youth Speak Out and Digital Storytellers. These youth reflect on their pasts in the child welfare system and advocate for a better future for those who come next. The film allows viewers to listen to our futures leaders and learn from them.This youth-partnered film shares a story of hope, resilience, and the capacity of youth to make change when given appropriate support and opportunity. And, perhaps most of all, this film asks that we don’t allow the youth who come next to feel alone or left behind.
