About this event

In this class, you will be introduced to the beginner steps of Carimbó and Boi-Bumbá, two Brazilian Amazonian dances.

You will learn the bases of these rhythms in two easy to follow but challenging choreographies. This course aims to provide a joyful, empowering, and inclusive experience! Approach it with curiosity and a willingness to explore something fresh!

  • These are individual dances, so NO partner needed!
  • This is a beginners class, you do NOT need to have any prior dance experience;

A little about the dances:

Carimbó:

  • Carimbó is a northern Brazilian rhythm that was created from a combination of indigenous dance steps, African hip movements and Portuguese spins! Learn more here!

Boi-Bumbá:

  • The Boi-Bumba dances are from the Parintins Folkloric Festival, the world's largest open-air folk festival in Parintins, Amazonas, Brazil. Learn more here!

Through my dance lessons, I hope to not only teach you the steps and techniques of these dynamic dance styles but also provide insight into the rich cultural heritage and traditions that they represent. So, come join me on this exciting journey as we explore the rhythms of Northern Brazil together!

What to wear:

For a complete cultural experience, a skirt will be provided! The dances are very energetic and there will be jumping and spinning, so it'll be something that will help you dance comfortably!
