About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Ana Dushyna is a botanical pharmacology specialist, Master of Science in Pharmacy, Speaker, Certified Landscaper, and a Herbal Garden Designer. She devotes her expertise to encouraging people to grow and use well-researched medicinal plants from all around the world.

She’s actively engaged in native plant restoration projects to help North America’s native plants to survive and thrive (Darts Hill Garden Native Plant Group, Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club), served on the board of Friends of Semiahmoo Bay Society, an environmental organization; collaborates with North Vancouver’s Park and Tilford Garden.

Born and raised in Europe, inspired by her grandmother, a doctor and ethnobotanist, she decided to continue exploring medicinal plants.

Her programs combine science and history; practical recommendations on how to grow and harvest plants. From her perspective, herbs are unusual beauties, with their power to cure, stories and fairy tales to explore. Medicinal plants offer us diversity of shapes and colours, as well as refine aroma.

At first glance, the world of medicinal plants may not be as bright as an ornamental one. But when you know each plant in your garden, you turn into a good magician with power to bring health and happiness to your dearest people.

This class is hands-on in the garden; in case of rain, a covered outdoor space is available. Dress for the weather in clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty and prepare to enjoy a day of learning and creativity!

Absolutely no experience is required.

Park in reserved parking lot off 168th Avenue.

We are a dedicated group interested in preserving Darts Hill Garden Park as a Plantsman’s Garden. Inspired by the spirit and vision of Francisca Darts–who with her husband Edwin–so graciously donated the property to the City of Surrey, the Society seeks to continue the development of the Garden and to extend opportunities to the public to enjoy the Garden as well as to make their own special contributions.

The City of Surrey worked directly with Francisca Darts in the development of a purpose, vision and overall guiding principles for the Garden. This ensures that in the future the garden will continue to be managed in accordance with her wishes.

The City and the Society are excited about the future of Darts Hill Garden Park. The garden will be a place of horticultural learning, where enthusiastic amateur gardeners will rub shoulders with professional horticulturists to view some of the finest and most mature horticultural specimens in the Pacific Northwest.
