Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training [ASIST]

This workshop will be held in person over two days on November 27 and 28, 2024 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia at the Rodd Grand Yarmouth - 417 Main Street, Yarmouth, B5A 1G3

** These ASIST Training sessions are being offered at a subsidized rate of $75.01 (Tax & fees included) per person to individuals and organizations for whom the regular ASIST fees are a barrier. **

If you would like to send more than one individual from your organization, please limit it to no more than three participants and email additional names to Katie Glover at katie.glover@novascotia.cmha.ca. to add them to our waiting list for upcoming sessions.

About ASIST: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training [ASIST] is a 2-day intensive, interactive and practice-dominated course designed to help individuals recognize the risk of suicide, and learn how to intervene to prevent the risk of suicidal thoughts from becoming suicidal behaviours.

Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop — ASIST can be learned and used by anyone.

ASIST participants learn to:

• Understand the ways personal and societal attitudes affect views on suicide and interventions.
• Provide guidance and suicide first-aid to a person at risk in ways that meet their individual safety needs.
• Identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it.
• Appreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community at large.
• Recognize other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care.

Details:

• The time and location will be the same for both days. Your ticket covers both days.
• Lunch will be provided free of charge.
• Please arrive no later than 15 minutes before the session is scheduled to begin.
• We are not able to offer refunds on ASIST Training for sessions being offered at this reduced rate. Please ensure that you are able to attend on the date this session is being offered.
