Join us for an engaging seminar with Jared Tobias Herring on , where we’ll explore Jared's personal journeys through travel and community, and discuss how to cultivate meaningful connections, set intentional goals, and develop sustainable creative practices. Discover the art of finding balance as a freelance artist.

ARTIST2ARTIST ADMIN WORK CAFE is a place for artists & arts administrators to connect and grow their business, administrative efficiency, and expand their opportunities with partnerships. This is also a great space to connect with the grantors at Calgary Arts Development.

This registered series is hosted in collaboration with Calgary Arts Development. The topic for this talk is learning how to "Finance your Practice" to work as an artist in this city. Led by mutli-disciplanry artist, Jared Tobias Herring, he will guide you through his journey of now being able to work as a full-time creative & artist.

Snacks & Refreshments will be provided. PWYC - $5 - $15

Bring your devices, notebooks, and implement what was learned during the talk to your work, submit those grants, send those invoices, and finish planning for upcoming gigs!

There will also be an ASL intrepreter for the Artist2Artist Talk!

This series will also be supplemented by Drop-In (no registration required) ARTIST2ARTIST ADMIN WORK CAFE in collaboration with The Oratory. Last one of the year is December 8th 2024!

Jared Tobias Herring is a freelance performing artist, educator, dancer & instructor, musician, filmmaker, editor and writer. He studied English and Dance at the University of Calgary. Jared has travelled as an educator and a scholar for dance training, film, and directing. His experience abroad helps to refine his approach to sharing his experiences to enrich and broaden Calgary's artistic scope and sensibility. Jared's artistic journey has roots in music, instilled by his parents who are Caribbean dancehall pioneers in Calgary. At this time, Jared is passionate about utilizing film as a vehicle to transport multiple artistic mediums in exploring storytelling and the continuum of art as cultural practice.

Alcove Centre for the Arts (alcoveartscentre.ca) is a non-profit organization based in Calgary, AB which aims to make art more accessible and promote a vibrant local arts industry. We curate and cultivate community art spaces for Calgarians to engage in art and creativity while building a platform for emerging local artists.

Alcove is a Recreational Art Space open to the public providing free art supplies and instruments to stimulate creativity. The space also acts as a gathering place for workshops, community events, and social meetups. Come visit and get creative!

Parking Options

Other than street parking in the surrounding area, there's reasonably priced parking in the Bow Parkade and underground TD Core Parking lot (745 4 St SW, Calgary, AB T2P 4K9) that we recommend for attendees! Weekday Evenings: (3 PM - 12 AM): First three hours after 3 PM free, $2 flat rate thereafter

Accessibility

The main event and stage area is accessed without the use of any stairs/steps. Please be advised that the one washroom in the space is narrow, and unfortunately not currently wheelchair accessible. Free, disposable ear plugs are offered at the space.
