Roads Not Taken is the story of a Canadian journalist who becomes a foreign correspondent, reporting on the major international issues of this era, including racial discrimination, regional warfare, political repression, poverty, economic disparity, global warming and the impact of pandemics.​

Author Terry Keenleyside ​(All the Way; Roaming the big Land: Flavours of Canada), explains why he chose to write a novel on this subject, notes the major international issues that it explores and reads several dramatic passages related to these issues.
