Everyone is welcome to the Female Wave of Change Canada’s November virtual gathering, “Beyond the Lens: Shaping Futures and Shattering Stereotypes” with our featured guest Amina Mohamed, Founder & Executive Director of "Cameras for Girls", and Advocate for Gender Equality in Media.
In our thought-provoking exploration, we’ll learn from Amina about her initiative called "Cameras For Girls" to teach photography and business skills to women and girls in her home country of Uganda.
Together, we’ll explore:
- The Role of Storytelling in Empowerment – How storytelling and visual media can amplify marginalized voices, foster connection, and influence societal change.
- Building Economic Empowerment Through Skills and Confidence – Why it's crucial for women to have practical skills and a supportive network to navigate professional challenges and succeed.
- Fostering Sustainable Impact – The importance of creating sustainable programs that not only uplift individuals but also build a legacy for gender equality and opportunity for future generations.
Amina Mohamed has always had a passion for photography. She spent fifteen years exploring this passion while working in film and television as a producer and production manager on numerous movies and documentaries. In 2018, Amina designed an initiative called "Cameras For Girls" to teach photography and business skills to women and girls in her home country of Uganda. She provides a camera to keep and a 4-phase skills-based curriculum for girls and women who want to become journalists and photographers in male-dominated Africa but face gender-based barriers to employment.
