About this event

Commemoration of the passage of the Voyageurs in Langley in 1824. Music by Réjean Bussières, art workshops by Joanne Estelle Plourde & Hélène Moreault, planting of crabappletrees, a parade in Portage Park at 13:30, a drumming session with First Nations and storytelling of 1824 at 11:00-12:00, bring a drum if you want to participate. A conference on the expedition of 1824 at Timms Centre($20.); tickets are on Eventbrite at Voyageur Portage Conference 1824-2024 (14:30-17:30). Remember it was 200 years ago that a first expedition of 40 people in three canoes came here by land and made a portage that brought them to the Fraser River. Their records in two journals indicate that the Stò:lõ were here before all the other Nations came here to enjoy a ride along the mighty salmon river, sleep on the ground and paddle on the richest salmon river in Canada.

Joanne is a visual artist and a professional costumer for the camera. She creates colours and reproduce them. She did her first show in 1986 on stage at the Banff Centre in 1986. It revealed a new world to her. Joanne Plourde was the first official dyer/textile painter hired by Cirque du Soleil to create the first four shows that went around the world. She just founded the Living Arts Society in order to be able to bring her art to the public through events and master classes.
