Bicentennial Portage

Commemoration of the passage of the Voyageurs in Langley in 1824. Music, planting of crabappletrees, a conference on the expedition of 1824 at Timms Centre($20.), a parade, a drumming session with First Nation and storytelling. Remember it was 200 years ago that a first expedition of 40 people in three canoes came here by land and made a portage that brought them to the Fraser River. Their records indicate that First nations were here before all the other Nations came to visit and taste their salmon, sleep on the ground and paddle on the most powerful river in Canada.
