About this event

We request the honour of your presence at the Black Diasporas Tkaronto-Toronto community opening reception. This evening will mark the community launch of a digital mapping project, documenting the experiences of 50 Black individuals who call this city home. We would love to celebrate the project with you, your family and friends, and the other Black Diasporas participants, supporters, and contributors.

About afrOURban Inc.

afrOURban is a non profit (501c3) organization dedicated to documenting and celebrating more nuanced narratives about the spaces occupied by Black people, both in the diaspora and on the African continent. The collective is comprised of Black artists, architects, practitioners & citizens from over 20 countries ranging from an Angolan Venice biennale architect to a matatu driver in Kenya. afrOURban exhibits, screenings, tours and talks have served as a conduit for discussion about the diversity of the Black experience in cities. The collective has hosted exhibits and screenings in Manahatta-New York City, Tiohtià:ke-Montreal, Tkaronto-Toronto, Warrane-Sydney, & Narrm-Melbourne since 2017. The Black Diasporas project was started by afrOURban in 2020. afrOURban facilitates spaces where Black voices are affirmed in the telling of Black stories.
