BLPA Guided Winter Nature Walk

Burnaby Lake may seem dormant in the winter, but there is still plenty of color and life to explore! Join us for an easy walk on forested trails - take in the crisp air, observe winter wildlife and learn about the plants around the trails.

Please check the forecast and dress for the weather so you are safe and comfortable.

Plan to arrive early or stay after the outing so you can join in on the fun of the BLPA's annual Holiday Open House! Enjoy a warm beverage while you learn about the BLPA, what we do and how you can get involved. Decorate your own Wood Duck Cookie and test your nature knowledge with a trivia question!

The event will take place rain (unless an atmostpheric river) or shine.

We welcome everyone, including people of differing abilities, those who are Black, Indigenous or People of Color (BIPOC), and people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA+). We’ll be using Burnaby Lake Regional Park trails which are accessible to wheelchair-users, people who use mobility aids, or child strollers.

LOCATION:

Burnaby Lake Nature House - we will meet in front of the Nature House. Look for signs.

The Burnaby Lake Park Association was founded in 1972* and has been an active volunteer organization leading stewardship activities that preserve, restore, and protect Burnaby Lake Regional Park’s ecological integrity. They connect people with nature through habitat restoration and enhancement such as their invasive species removal program Weedbusters and Nestbox Monitoring, education and outreach in the community. The BLPA is an advocate for environmentally responsible management of Burnaby Lake Regional Park to ensure it is a legacy for future generations. We work in conjunction with Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Interpreters to help people discover the great outdoors!

The BLPA acknowledges that our work is situated on the the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples. We offer immense gratitude and thanks to the nations and the Indigenous peoples who have long been protectors of the lands and the waters that house and nourish us and allow us to do this work to restore and protect Burnaby Lake Regional Park.
