University of Regina Press and the the Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History kindly invite you to join us in celebrating the publication of In the Light of Dawn: The History and Legacy of a Black Canadian Community by Marie Carter, which is the first in UR Press' Henry and Mary Bibb Series in Black Canadian Studies, edited by the brilliant Afua Cooper, who will appear in conversation with Marie Carter in a book talk that will illuminate how this deeply researched book that considers the history of the Dawn Settlement, or present day Dresden, Ontario on a 200 year continuum of resistance to oppression, from it's establishment in the nineteenth century, to its Black leaders' involvement in the fight for civil right in the 1950s, to it's diverse character today.
The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and registration is required to attend so please RSVP to reserve a seat for the book talk. The book signing will begin at 2pm and RSVPs are not required for this part of the event. Books will be available for sale from the Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History and the author, Marie Carter, will be pleased to sign your copy. Refreshments from Union Bloc will be served. We hope to see you there!
