In A Communist for the RCMP: The Uncovered Story of a Social Movement Informant, Dennis Gruending unearths the hidden story of a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) informant embedded within Canada’s communist movements during the Cold War. The book reveals the complicated relationship between government surveillance, political movements and civil liberties in Canada.

Gruending conducted extensive research for this book, including significant work at Library and Archives Canada, where he uncovered critical archival documents that shed light on the complex history of the RCMP’s surveillance operations. His careful use of these records has resulted in a richly detailed and authoritative account of this covert chapter in Canadian history.
