Mars: From Inspiration to Spirit and Ingenuity - February 14, 2025

Mars is a very challenging target for humans; we have sent more than 50 robotic emissaries from multiple countries with varying levels of success. When will we see boots on Mars? There are significant hurdles that we need to overcome if humans want to become a multi-planetary species. Getting to Mars, living and working there, and returning safely to Earth will require considerable skills and planning to overcome the weakest link, the astronauts.

The International Space Station: an Engineering Marvel - April 18, 2025

In 1998, two former Cold War enemies came together with 14 other countries to build and operate the world's largest object ever placed into space, the International Space Station. Parts built in 16 different countries had never touched each other on the ground and had to fit together nearly perfectly for the project to succeed. With many cultural and engineering challenges ahead, the International Space Station has now been operating in space for 24 years with 6 years left of operations, and we will look at how this engineering marvel was built and maintained for a quarter century.
