✨ What is Café & Chapters?
Café & Chapters is a monthly in-person book club for Black readers and people of colour in Montreal. We meet in cozy cafés or casual restaurants to talk about fiction by BIPOC authors—stories that speak to identity, culture, joy, grief, love, and everything in between.
📚 What to Expect:
- A welcoming space for reflection, conversation, and connection
- A thoughtfully chosen fiction book each month by a Black author or author of colour
- Good drinks, cozy vibes, and maybe a pastry or two
- A small group of 8 to 15 people to keep things warm, intentional, and easy to settle into
- Suggestions for future books, series, or even films are always welcome — we’re keeping it flexible and fun!
☕ About the Meetups:
We gather monthly at a local café in NDG, Westmount, Mile End, or Verdun (venue and book announced ahead of time by email). Each meetup is built around a shared read and open, affirming conversation.
📖 Please read the selected book before each meetup — we’ll use it as our springboard into thoughtful dialogue.
Whether you're a longtime bookworm or easing back into reading, this space is for you. Come solo or bring a friend — you'll be in good company either way. ❤️
Frequently asked questions
Yes. Our first meetup will center on a selected fiction book (shared after registration), so please try to read it beforehand. Don’t worry—future books will be chosen as a group.
Yes—this is an identity-affirming space created for Black readers and people of colour. It’s not about exclusion, but about centring stories and voices that are often overlooked. If that reflects your lived experience, you’re warmly welcome here.
Nope! Join when you can. We meet once a month, and you’re welcome to attend as often or as occasionally as fits your life. There’s no pressure—just community, whenever you’re able to show up.
Meetups will be held at cozy cafés or casual restaurants in NDG, Westmount, Mile End, or Verdun. The exact location will be shared with attendees after registration and may rotate each month based on group size and vibe.
There’s no fee to join the book club. You’ll just cover the cost of your own drink or meal if you choose to order something during the meetup.
Meetups run about 60 to 90 minutes. We aim to start and end on time so everyone can settle in and enjoy the full discussion. We’d love for you to stay for the whole thing if you can!
Absolutely! You’re welcome to bring a friend—just be sure to reserve a spot for them when you RSVP, since space is limited to keep the group small and cozy.
