Exploring Risk with Virtual Reality

With safety at the forefront of many jobsites, how can we affectively introduce the workforce to potential risk without the need of exposing them to harm? Conventional training methods can be effective for the theory, but in practice, how can we expose and train the personnel while reducing their exposure to risk. In the recent years, virtual reality has started to become more and more mainstream. Originally focused on gaming, the evolution of virtual reality has seen a shift into the work place in a handful of different applications with ease due to its ease of use and standalone variations allowing for a simple deployment.

Risk comes in different variations, some being minor while other risks can be life threatening. Virtual reality can span a large range of different risks, including simple tasks like hazard identification to high risk exercises like sounding, where the personnel uses the scaling bar to identify delamination of the seams. Virtual reality has evolved how we educate and brings awareness to different risks around our jobsite.
