About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with the following:

    • A description and differentiation between climate coaching, climate psychology, and ecopsychology.
    • Fundamental tools and techniques for climate change coaches including trust, positive regard, compassion, acceptance, listening, presence, and pace.
    • Methods for addressing common economic dilemmas and philosophical fallacies resulting in apathy or in-action related to the climate crisis.
    • Resources for developing their skills in this area further.

    Your Facilitator

Nick Couture is a registered professional engineer with 7 years of experience in the marine data collection, industrial construction, and renewable energy sectors. He holds certificates in climate psychology, truth and reconciliation action, and business strategies for a better world. Additionally, he engages deeply in topics / practices such as embodied movement + deep play, environmental philosophy, climate coaching, social enterprise development, and earth listening. He is currently in the process of developing an organization whose mission is to collaborate with other organizations striving to accelerate the cultural paradigm shift towards fortified mental resilience, regenerative economics, and deep ecology with the end of mitigating the worst possible outcomes of climate change and the polycrisis.

    Positionality

"I am a white male settler facilitating these events from a place of high privilege. I am not a clinical counsellor nor a psychologist but am well read on these topics and have carefully considered and received professional mentorship on the ethical / personal boundaries of what it is safe to unfold in this workshop series. I am in the process of learning alongside all participants and am open to any feedback that anyone wishes to express."

    The Series

Each session will be mutually exclusive. However, it is preferable for participants to show up to as many sessions as possible with the goal of collective learning, developing a sense of safety/trust, and developing a sense of community. Doors will close 5-minutes after the session starts in respect of the container that will be held unless advanced notice of a late arrival is given.

Feel free to bring any tokens / items that are personal to you to place in the center of the room for the purpose of invoking a sense of connection to nature (i.e. rocks, acorns, leaves, trinkets)

Note - There is potential to un-earth challenging emotions during these sessions. We ask that participants show up with an open heart/mind holding compassion and curiosity for the personal expressions of others as paramount. We also ask that participants manage their own anxiety / stress / sense of overwhelm and take space from the group if needed. There are plenty of comfortable spaces in the common areas of theDock to re-ground.
