Psychosis refers to a range of conditions affecting the mind involving loss of contact with reality. Psychotic disturbances interfere significantly with daily functioning and constitute some of the most debilitating mental health challenges. This course will provide an overview of psychosis with an emphasis on gaining practical assessment and intervention skills to provide effective support to clients experiencing psychosis, their family members, and caregivers. Participants will also review best practices for crisis intervention and learn about available psycho-educational and community resources to promote recovery-oriented practice and client resilience.

Learning Objectives:

- Understand the main symptoms and impacts of psychosis;

- Gain an understanding of the main disorders, risk factors, and conditions for experiencing psychotic episodes and symptoms;

- Become familiar with the main treatment approaches for addressing and managing psychosis;

- Learn best practices for crisis intervention to assist during a psychotic episode;

- Learn about available psycho-education and community resources to promote recovery and resilience.
