Get to Know Your H2O!

Ever wonder where your drinking water comes from? Join us on our Get to Know Your H2O tours to discover how your drinking water is delivered from the source to your tap. During the tour you’ll discover the natural landscapes, water supply reservoirs and the treatment process that provides Greater Victoria with high quality drinking water.

Tour Meet Up Location: All tours depart from 2955 Sooke Lake Road at 9:30 am sharp. Follow sandwich board signage along Sooke Lake Road to venue parking. Free parking is available. Event check in opens at 9:00 AM.

This event is free, but registration is required.

Note: The CRD reserves the right to cancel this event if there is low registration. Attendees will be notified if the event is cancelled.

What Should I Bring

We suggest you bring the following items: lunch or snacks, water, sunscreen, bug spray, a camera and a jacket or sweater

How Should I Dress

Dress for outdoor activity (no opened toed shoes). The weather inside the watershed changes very rapidly, we suggest you dress in layers and pack an extra sweater or jacket. Tours happen rain or shine so dress appropriately for the weather.

Are there Washrooms Available During the Tour

Outhouses are located at each tour stop. There are no flushing toilets on the tour and no washrooms on the tour bus

How Much Walking is Involved

There will be a short walk from the bus to most tour stops. Additionally, there will be a brief forest walk along a short, relatively flat and easy trail. If you are unable to walk longer distances, you can stay on the tour bus during the forest walk and join in at the next tour stop.

Can I Bring My Bike on the Tour

Feel free to cycle to the tour meet up location. We will have bike racks for you to lock your bike up. Bikes are not permitted on the tour bus or inside the watershed.

What Should I Do When I Arrive for the Tour

Please check in with our tour guides at the CRD tent so we can check you off our attendance list. Please check in with us before getting on the bus.

What Will I See on The Tour

Sooke Lake Reservoir dam and spillway Rithet Creek (main tributary supplying Sooke Lake Reservoir) Deception Reservoir and dam Goldstream Disinfection Facility Picturesque nature Possibly some of the watershed’s furry friends

What Other Important Information Do I Need to Know

There is very limited cell phone coverage inside the watershed. Pets and strollers are not permitted on tours. Smoking and vaping during tours is strictly prohibited (this includes outside).

Can Children Attend

No - due to the length and technical nature of the tour, all participants must be 12 + years old to attend.

Is the Bus Accessible

Yes, depending on the tour date. If you require an accessible bus, please ensure you book a tour marked ACCESSIBLE. Please note that there are some uneven and gravel paths on the tour, so please ensure your wheelchair or walker is equipped for the terrain.
