About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

The Culture and Technology Book club brings readers together once a month to discuss new and classic texts that raise important questions about the way technology transforms our cultural and political lives. The group will read on relevant topics related to social media, innovation, surveillance and infrastructure.

When: Friday, December 20 @ 7:00pm

Where: North York Central Library (5120 Yonge Street, Toronto), eLearning Lab (2nd floor)

Theme: Cyborgs

This month we will read: “A Cyborg Manifesto” by Donna Haraway (1985) [widely available]

Are humans so distinct from their technical systems? Are human categories so cut and dried? If-not, then what? Donna Harraway’s classic feminist essay probes the breakdown of the traditional dichotomies between natural and artificial traits that have accompanied the rise of technology. She explores the radical potential of accepting the real hybridity at play in the world, with a focus on its liberatory potential.

Registration is encouraged. Drop-ins welcome. Book your ticket through Eventbrite.
