About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Since 2016, Ballet Edmonton has partnered with local agencies and organizations to offer outreach dance programs to underserved community members. Part of building healthy, inclusive communities is removing barriers to participation – including cost. We work with our partners to identify needs and develop accessible programs that will generate the highest level of engagement. From our Hip Hop for Newcomers classes to our adapted programmes for children and youth with disabilities, these programs are created in response to the needs expressed by the community. Ensuring all Edmontonians can access dance and movement-based programming is how Art Connects connects us to ourselves and each other.

Sheri is a multidisciplinary performing artist and am currently the Executive Producer of Ballet Edmonton. Sheri created community outreach programming to help members of the Edmonton community experience the benefits of dance and music in settings outside a performance environment. They customize programs to meet the specific needs of partners who go to them. They customize programs to suit the physical, emotional, and social needs of people who want to utilize music and dance for well-being.

What is MUSIC CARE by Room 217?

The Room 217 Foundation is a music-based health arts social enterprise. Our newly branded MUSIC CARE by Room 217 produces and delivers purposely designed music products, education, training, and certification to improve quality of life and care. Our three pillars of musiccare are - CONNECT, LEARN and CERTIFY – each designed to support caregivers and care communities to increase engagement and life enrichment.

What is MUSIC CARE?

Music care is the intentional use of music by anyone to improve health and well-being. The music care approach promotes the application of sound and music to be used in formal health care settings and community or home-based contexts. Music is integral to person-centred care through integration into daily routines and practice. Music care is inclusive, offering a variety of delivery domains and a means for both intercultural and intergenerational connection. Music care can be implemented by all caregivers regardless of music ability. The intentional use of music humanizes care, deepens relationships, and enhances the care experience.
