About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Building on the momentum from our previous virtual session, this in-person gathering serves not only as a reflection on the persistent challenges of hate and discrimination but also as a catalyst for meaningful, collective action. Through shared stories, expert insights, and collaborative discussions, participants will deepen their knowledge and walk away with practical strategies to champion inclusivity in their spheres of influence.

This gathering also continues the commemoration of the conclusion of the International Decade for People of African Descent, which has been guided by three key pillars—recognition, justice, and development—in addressing systemic barriers faced by people of African descent worldwide. In addition, the event commemorates Black History Month.

In the Canadian context, heightened awareness and actions against anti-Black racism have marked this period, reflecting an urgency to recognize and dismantle racial inequalities, while celebrating the resilience and achievements of African-descended communities. As we gather in person, we will spotlight key areas of progress and continuing focus, including:

  • Improving Black representation in leadership and policymaking.
  • Improving the wellbeing of community members of all descent.
  • Addressing hate crimes and systemic discrimination within education, employment, and the criminal justice system.

By coming together for this culminating event, we aim to bolster the collective efforts of individuals, communities, and institutions dedicated to forging a more inclusive and equitable society—one that honors diverse perspectives, fosters dialogue, and takes transformative action against hate. We look forward to welcoming you in person and working together to sustain the momentum toward lasting, positive change.
