Biophilia is a love of living things and of nature. Biophilic design incorporates elements of nature, connecting people to the natural environment through the use of direct nature, indirect nature, and space and place conditions. It can mimic the sensory delight of a hike through the woods, or bring nature’s smells, sounds, colors and textures indoors.

Biophilia has historically been considered a ‘nice to have’ benefit, but evidence-based design is demonstrating benefits such as employee attraction, wellbeing, performance and retention.
