Emily Carr Inspired Art Class: Garry Oak Meadows

This 2-hour art workshop is uniquely designed to bring together generations to connect through art-making. We encourage you to register with your child, a parent, a grandparent, a neighbour, or a friend! Or register individually to meet people in your community!

Come join us for a fun and relaxed art class at the beautiful Carr House National Historic Site! In this workshop, we will be drawing inspiration from the legendary artist Emily Carr and focusing on the beauty of Garry Oak Meadows. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to unleash your inner artist in a historic setting! All creative experience levels welcome. The class is tailored to providing the inspiration and all the materials needed for to you to explore your creativity.

About the instructor
Helga Strauss is an artist, educator, and therapeutic arts practitioner. In her personal art practice, she creates art every day, following her joy and curiosity. As a teacher for over 30 years, she encourages her students to do the same. Her mission is to help people spark joy, connection, and healing through creative, art-filled play. Accessibility

Please note this workshop takes place in a classroom on the second floor of Carr House up a flight of stairs. Please reach out to events@carrhouse.ca with any requests, questions, or concerns regarding accessibility of the workshop, and we will do our best to accommodate!

Parking

Carr House does not have a parking lot. Please park at Beacon Hill Park (a short walk away) if you are able. There is room for only 2 cars reserved for folks with mobility issues. Please do not park on the grass or block the gravel roundabout (this must be kept clear for emergency vehicles.)

Cancellation

As a small organization, Carr House reserves the right to cancel any workshop if minimum registration is not met. Participants may cancel their registration at any time (see "Refunds" below for more information regarding the time frame needed to receive a refund).

Last-minute registration

As a small heritage organization, Carr House and its third parties work hard to deliver public-facing events and workshops. To allow appropriate time for our instructors to prepare, workshop registration closes 24 hours before the event start time. Staff cannot take cash or cheques for registration.

What do I need to bring?

All materials and supplies are included in the price. Just bring your imagination!

What age group is the class for? Can children register?

Everyone ages 10+. All skill levels are welcome. Children 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult who is also registered in the class.

Do I need experience with art-making or poetry?

No, all skill and experience levels are welcome!
