About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Within fifty years, two giants of the French classical and liturgical music tradition composed settings of the Latin Requiem, and these works stand among the most beloved pieces in the western choral canon. Gabriel Fauré wrote his Requiem (Op. 48) for parish use at the Church of The Madeleine in 1888, and Maurice Duruflé wrote his setting (Op. 9) in 1948, based on melodies from the Gregorian Missa pro Defunctis. Additionally, we will perform Duruflé's Quatre Motets, and Parisian organist Louis Vierne's cared song cycle, Les Angelus. Caelis Academy Ensemble, with soloists Bronwyn Thies-Thompson, Miriam Rosberg, Ian Sabourin, and Michael Carty, will offer these works under the direction of founding director Matthew Larkin, with artists Nathan Jeffery (organ), and Amos Friesen (cello).
