Farm Transition Workshop

Are you a farmer/rancher or landholder planning your transition? Or, are you a young farmer/rancher looking to step into a farm management position or scale your operation? Join us for an interactive session to help you establish good communication and set the stage for a successful farm transition!

Farm transitions aren’t just about the business, it’s also about the people. Plenty of resources and support are available to help you make the best decisions on the numbers side. This session is focused on helping you establish and maintain a good dynamic between the people involved. Whether the farm is being transitioned to a family or non-family member, maintaining good relationships is essential to a successful transition.

Lydia Carpenter will facilitate this session and is open to everyone, whether you’re involved in a land transition or not. It is a great opportunity for all of us to learn more about what each generation needs, expects and deserves.

This workshop is in collaboration with the Keystone Agricultural Producers, Prairie Fruit Growers Association and Young Agrarians.

About Lydia Carpenter

Lydia lives and farms in southwestern Manitoba and has worked with hundreds of farm families across Canada and the USA as a facilitator and mediator with Farm Family Coach. She has a Master’s Degree in Natural Resources Management with a research focus in rural livelihoods, and focuses her continued education on communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution.

Lydia has hands-on experience as a farm founder and owner/operator of a growing and profitable cattle grazing and beef business that she started in her 20s. She and her spouse/ business partner are also part of a joint venture and transition plan with non-family. She is most passionate about the human relationships to the landscape and to one another that are needed to make farming and rural communities really work. Her passion for the people in agriculture has driven her pursuit of lifelong learning, relationship building and her ongoing work of facilitating hard conversations for farm families in transition.

About Keystone Agricultural Producers

Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) is Manitoba’s general farm policy organization, providing a unified voice for farmers on issues that affect agriculture. KAP represents and promotes the interests of all Manitoba farmers and 19 commodity associations through advocacy, collaboration, communications and education.

About Prairies Fruit Growers Association

The Prairie Fruit Growers Association (PFGA) is a voluntary non-profit organization representing Manitoba fruit crop growers since 1974.

The Association is represented by seven elected member directors and three advisors; one each from Manitoba Agriculture, Assiniboine Community College and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The PFGA work with On-Farm Food Safety and Environmental Farm Plan programs to ensure that the public values locally grown fruit not only for taste but as safe food products.
