We are delighted to invite you to our upcoming lecture series in collaboration with the Vancouver Historical Society on October 24, 2024, at 7 PM at Il Centro.

Join us for an enlightening evening as Dr. Jen Baron discusses the vital role that wildfires have historically played in British Columbia’s diverse ecosystems. Her presentation will delve into the ecological significance of wildfire and its intricate connections to human history, illustrating how past actions shape our present experiences and ongoing environmental narratives.

We’ll also hear from Liz Toohey-Wiese, a settler artist deeply engaged with the history of landscape painting. Her recent works explore contemporary themes of identity and place, specifically focusing on wildfires and their complex ties to tourism, economy, grief, and renewal.

This is a unique opportunity to gain insights from two inspiring voices in the field. Don’t miss out on this thought-provoking discussion—mark your calendars!

Admission is FREE! We look forward to welcoming you for an evening of exploration and connection.

Il Centro Italian Cultural Centre has been an essential part of Vancouver’s cultural landscape for more than four decades. It opened in 1977 when its founding members, 13 existing Italian Associations, came together with the mission statement: “to promote and share Italian culture, values and heritage with all communities.”

Whether for our exceptional catering and banqueting facilities, our language classes or our breadth of cultural activities, Il Centro is one of the most cherished event venues in Vancouver and a destination for those who appreciate authentic, cultural activities.

Through our collective love of art, food, wine, design, film, music and literature, we proudly share our culture with our community, and welcome all who wish to be part of our vibrant destination in Vancouver.
