About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Join us once a month at Dominion Chalmers United Church for a series of free community concerts led by Music Director Nick Veltmeyer and Artist-in-Residence Emmanuel Solomon. Each concert features performances by talented local musicians, special guests from the community, and visiting artists. These events are designed to make high-quality live music accessible to all, to support meaningful local causes, and to provide a welcoming space for people to gather and celebrate beauty, creativity, and connection. All are welcome to experience the joy and inspiration of these uplifting performances.

On Sunday, November 24th we welcome Ori Shalva for their first performance at Dominion Chalmers!

Ori Shalva, aka the Makharahsvili Family, doesn’t just perform Georgian polyphony. When they sing the visceral harmonies of the millenia old musical tradition, they transcend space and time, and take you on a far-off musical journey of Sakartvelo (aka Georgia) - a small, ancient mountainous country located on the borders of Asia and Europe. The family unit played an instrumental role in preserving this UNESCO-recognized intangible masterpiece of humanity. Singing for Ori Shalva, like all Georgian singing families, is natural, instinctive, and originally framed by family celebrations, not staged performances. It is only very recently that Ori Shalva emerged from its humble familial beginnings through performances with SING!, Tafelmusik, Blok, and other presenters.
