Musician, activist, song writer and song interpreter extraordinaire Rebecca Campbell will headline the 16th annual Gil’s Hootenanny. Rebecca is a magical performer who creates music that is “emotionally rooted”, “honest” and “interactive”. She honed her musical artistry in Ottawa in the 1980s and 90s, before moving to Toronto to expand her creative horizons. She is a performer who finds “solace and energy in activism” and she works to lay bare “the inequities and injustices of the world we live in”. Singer-songwriter Tony Turner will be the Opening Act for the 2025 singalong concert. Formerly based in Ottawa, Tony is now a resident of Nanaimo, BC. Tony's life and career were forever changed after his song Harperman won the 2015 Gil’s Hootenanny song-writing contest and a video of the song became a YouTube hit and the centrepiece of political rallies across Canada. Gil’s Hootenanny is delighted to welcome both Rebecca and Tony back to Ottawa to bring the audience together to “speak truth to power”.
