About this event

This beautifully restored provincial and national historic site is the birthplace and childhood home of beloved Canadian artist and author Emily Carr. Visit Carr House to learn about Emily Carr and her legacy of inspiration.

Visitors can register in advance for a 45-minute guided tour of the house led by a staff member or volunteer. Visitors are also welcome to drop-in and explore the house at their own pace.

Admission is by donation (suggested $5-10)

There is information at the front door and exhibits in most rooms that share information about Emily Carr and her family. There is also a well-stocked gift shop with all of Emily Carr's books and many options for taking home a bit of Emily Carr art.

June 1 to August 31: Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Visitors are welcome to explore the house, take a tour, or visit our gift shop during these times.

Frequently asked questions

Accessibility

Half of this tour takes place on the second floor of the house. However, only the first floor of the house is accessible. An accessible path and accessible washroom are available. Please reach out to carrhouse@telus.net with any requests, questions, or concerns about the accessibility of our tours!

Where can I park?

There is very limited parking at Carr House, only 3 spots in the driveway. Free parking is also available at Beacon Hill Park (a short walk away). We also have a bike rack and encourage biking or walking. Carr House is a 10-minute walk from the Inner Harbour.

What age group is the tour for? Can children register?

Everyone! All ages are welcome. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Are animals allowed inside the house?

No. As a historical site Carr House cannot allow pets into the house, with the exception of certified guide/service dogs. Pets are, however, welcome in the gardens!

Cancellation

As a small organization, Carr House reserves the right to cancel any tour depending on staffing, private rentals/events, or other related reasons. Participants may cancel their registration at any time.

Can I visit the house without taking a guided tour?

Yes! We have self-guided tours at the front entrance that share some information about the house and the Carr Family. There are also exhibits in several rooms. Visitors are welcome to drop in to see the house during open hours.
