This 2 day course is perfect for anyone who has always wanted to try blacksmithing. If this is not your first class, you are also welcome to join and expand your skills!
You will learn how to use fire as a tool for heating metal, and how to tell when it is hot / soft enough to be shaped. You will then learn techniques for shaping it with a hammer, as well as how to use other specialized blacksmith’s tools. We will lead you step-by-step through the process of creating a traditional hook on day 1. Day 2 we will explore the many design possibilities of a hook, taking the skills we have learnt and applying them to our own creative designs.
No previous metalworking or drawing experience is necessary. All that’s required is a sense of curiosity and a willingness to learn!
Class runs from 10am-5pm Saturday and Sunday with a 1h lunch. All materials, safety equipment, coffee and tea will be provided. Lunch is available in town / an indoor lunch area with a microwave and fridge is provided on site if you bring your own food. Please wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. See you there!
