Please join us June 8th, 1:30-3:00pm (PDT) online over Zoom for a 90 minute session on supporting authors through all stages of book production with our facilitator, Chelene Knight.
Chelene Knight will share how she has helped other presses implement author care and why this work is important with all authors, but especially for emerging, first-time, and BIPOC authors. The session will provide resources for how to develop an author's kit, and how to support authors in discovering and communicating their unique non-negotiables, and time management strategies.
A portion of the session will be reserved for a question and answer period where publishers will be invited to share their current challenges with providing author care. Publishers can expect to take away tips regarding: establishing expectations with authors, system and time hacks when working within limited resources, and communicating author care to funders.
The session is free for Books BC members, associates and friends.
The cost for non-members is $25 CAD.
This event is brought to you by The Association of Book Publishers of BC (Books BC). All participants must agree to abide by our code of conduct.
The activities of Books BC and its member publishers take place across the province of British Columbia, approximately 95 percent of which is unceded Indigenous land. Books BC's head office is located in Vancouver, on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded land of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh). There are 198 distinct First Nations in BC; the province is also home to the oldest Indigenous publishing house in Canada, Theytus Books.
