In this presentation, Zsuzsa and Annaïck will delve into some of the data science efforts taking place at Genome BC. One such work is the creation of a Health Metadata Commons, an inventory of omics datasets, biological samples and medical images available in the community, www.metadatacommons.ca.

The rapid advancement of omics research has generated a vast amount of data, creating a critical need for effective data management and sharing strategies. Furthermore, numerous biobanks exist that house extensive collections of human samples. However, today’s data silos create barriers to information sharing and collaboration. The Health Metadata Commons addresses this need by storing and disseminating metadata pertaining to human biological samples and omics research data. Designed to support researchers across various disciplines, the Health Metadata Commons aims to enhance data discoverability and reuse, thereby accelerating scientific discoveries and innovations.

Dr. Hollander and Annaïck will also discuss the upcoming Genome BC and Genome Canada funding opportunities that may be of interest.

Learning Objectives

In this workshop you will learn about:

· Data science efforts Genome BC is leading

· Health Metadata Commons, including its potential benefits for health research

· Current Genome BC and Genome Canada funding programs

About the Speakers
