The Local Immigrant Partnership (LIP) Mental Health Committee invites you to participate in an Immigrant Mental Health Symposium.
Are you a:
- Mental health practitioner (doctor, nurse, therapist, counsellor, psychologist, social worker)
- Settlement practitioner
- Member of a community agency
- Local decision-maker/leader
- Researcher who is exploring immigrant mental health or related topics
- Healthcare professional
- Community member
We seek to bring together individuals and groups who serve immigrants in Southern Alberta. The purpose of bringing this diverse group of community members and stakeholders together, is to support immigrant mental health in our community. We hope to initiate connections and potential collaborations to support immigrant mental health service delivery and research.
What to expect:
1. A moderated expert panel will share their perspectives and experiences of supporting immigrants from a culturally safe perspective.
- Recovery Alberta (formally AHS Addictions and Mental Health)
- Family physician
- Registered psychologist - associate professor - Faculty of Education
- MSW Social Worker – adjunct professor - University of Calgary
- Language interpretation
2. Short workshops to support the delivery of mental health services to immigrants.
3. Oral and poster research presentations from local researchers exploring immigrant mental health and well-being.
4. Self-care wellness breaks and information.
5. Information tables from local organizations.
6. The end of the day: A group discussion exploring potential connections and collaborations moving forward.
Lunch will be provided, beverages and snacks available all day starting at 9:00 am.
