The YWCA Niagara Region has partnered with the Niagara Community Observatory at Brock University to conduct research that is aimed at raising public awareness and impacting housing policy.
Our SSHRC-funded project attempts to give voice to underrepresented women and gender-diverse people in securing desperately needed safe and affordable housing. There continues to be an urgent need to increase awareness of the housing crisis in Niagara and the growing disparity in accessing affordable housing for women facing intersectional barriers based on their identities, such as Indigeneity, race, sexuality, ability and age.
The presentation, highlighting our research findings, will be followed by a panel discussion (TBA) before opening up the floor to a much-needed conversation on women and homelessness in Niagara.
Parking in Zone 1 is free. Light refreshments will be served.
