About this event

IN THE SUMMERS

Winner of the 2024 Grand Jury prize for Best Dramatic Feature at the Sundance Film Festival, this is a delicate portrait of emotionally fraught relationships between family members. It highlights how a parent's personal struggles can leave lasting impressions on children as they transition through the crucial phases of their developmental years

Setting her film across four summer visits over a period of 20 years, the story unfolds in four distinct sections. And each one is introduced with a tableau consisting of mementos from the trips they have taken as a family. The beautifully composed still lifes are indicative of how  Alessandra Lacorazza approaches nearly every scene.

In the relationship between parents and children, memories can be battlefields. The validity of certain experiences is tested and accusations of wrongdoing are negotiated. The feature is a visual poem, an enveloping four-stanza ode to experiences shared by a man and his daughters.
