The Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority is launching the RPRA Circular Economy Learning Series to help businesses and municipalities understand and adapt to Ontario’s new resource recovery and circular economy initiative.

The first event is a free half-day workshop on Ontario’s new Individual Producer Responsibility regulatory framework. The workshop will address key questions including:

  • What is a Circular Economy?
  • What is IPR and is it different from Extended Producer Responsibility?
  • What is RPRA’s role in the new regulatory framework?
  • How is RPRA approaching its responsibility to support businesses and municipalities in understanding and adapting to the new requirements?
  • What is the role of Producer Responsibility Organizations in the new regulatory framework?
  • How does the collection system work under the Tires Regulation and what lessons can be learned for future regulations?
  • What are the data collection and reporting and audit requirements in the new regulatory framework?
  • What is the process of winding up current waste diversion programs and transitioning them to the new regulatory framework?

This workshop will be led by the Authority’s Registrar Pat Moran and will provide important and practical information and insight into Ontario’s new regulatory framework for supporting a circular economy and how to participate in the new emerging markets.

It will be of interest if you are a steward participating in a waste diversion program; an Ontario business anticipating becoming obligated under the new regulatory framework; or, a business or municipality providing waste management services.
