What is FASD

FASD stands for fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. FASD is caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol during pregnancy.

How does FASD happen?

Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder results from alcohol exposure during pregnancy. Even small amounts of alcohol exposure in the weeks before a pregnancy is detected can cause harm to a fetus. Alcohol is a substance that causes disruption to embryonic development. There is no safe amount of alcohol.

Is FASD common?

Yes, FASD is the most common developmental disability in Canada. There are more people with FASD than all those with Autism, Cerebal Palsy, Down Syndrome, and Tourette Syndrom COMBINED.

Where can I get support if I have (or someone I care for has) FASD?
