Our Make your own clothes course-is designed to introduce you to the great joy of designing your own, made-to-measure clothes !

We’ve created a 9 Module ( A to I ) self-paced course designed to give you all the necessary skills to create clothes. From sewing to cutting and transforming patterns , you will experiment all the necessary techniques to build a personal wardrobe. The Class is suitable for complete beginners or for the more seasoned makers that want to deepen their knowledge of garment making . You will leave each Class Module with a solid foundation to make your own clothes at home afterward .

Our Module can be taken any Saturdays at the Port Coquitlam Studio ( contact info@studio-maedesign.com to book your Course Session ).


Module A will review all the basic knowledge you will need to sew clothes starting using the easiest yet beautiful fabric: Cotton, linen or hemp woven fabrics..

We’ve curated a series of beautiful sewing projects that will give you the opportunity to learn different skills. Choose one project from : a Spring Shirt or Short, a blouse with raglan sleeve and gathered cuffs , a tank top with front gathering and side slit , a men's top with button tab closure.


Here are the topics we will cover during the class : Thread a sewing machine and wind a bobbin/ Cut your fabric properly / Handling of the sewing machine: feed fabric through, sew in a straight line and turn corners / explore the range of features and stitches on the machine / sew different types of seams / Understand the sequence of construction of a project / Tips and tricks for sewing corners, round shapes and pockets / Hem and basic finishings.


Specific project topics : Sew darts ( Spring shirt , Blouse and Tank top ) / Make a tab closure and sew Buttonhole with your machine sew sleeves ( Tops and Shirt ) / gathering and finishing collar and neck with facing ( Tank top ) / Sew a waistband and side pockets ( Shorts ) / Sew set-in sleeves ( Men's top )/ Sew invisible zipper ( blouse )


Sewing Machine provided

The fabric and trims ( thread and buttons) for your project is in addition. We have some fabric available in our circular textile store and will also recommend a list of materials+ local stores at registration. Please note that this workshop is for those aged 18 and over.

Cécile Raizonville collaborate creatively with local textile and fashion brands. She graduated from LCI Fashion design program in Barcelona. She founded the womenswear Brand Matière Noire with two collaborators in Montréal which gained recognition at a national level. She moved to British Columbia in 2016 and has worked in the garment manufacturing industry since then. After offering consulting services for various brand in Vancouver, she officially launched MAE , a studio aiming at to bringing her experience and creativity at the service of the growth of a culture of sustainability in Fashion.
