About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Join us for a workshop introducing you to the world of front-end software engineering! Whether you're a complete beginner or someone with some coding skills looking to try something new, this event is designed to provide you with a high-level overview of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in 3 hours.

During this interactive session, you'll get a taste of what it's like to be a bootcamp student as we guide you through the fundamentals of coding in front-end. From structuring the content with HTML to styling it with CSS and adding a dash of interactivity with JavaScript.

This workshop is ideal for those interested in applying to the Code to Career initiative, which subsidizes Software Engineering bootcamps, particularly for underrepresented folks in the tech industry. By attending, you'll gain insight into the bootcamp program and the tech skills it offers, specifically via exploring the foundations of front-end technologies.

No prior coding experience is required—all you need to bring is your curiosity! Our team will be on hand to answer any questions you have about the Code to Career program. Take your first steps into the world of front-end software engineering and discover how you can contribute to building a more inclusive and equitable tech community. We look forward to coding with you!

Who is this for?

  • “I’m curious about tech and code in general”
  • “I am a complete beginner when it comes to coding”
  • “I have some coding skills but I’m looking to try my hand at something new!”
  • “I have financial barriers that make it hard to pay for classes and training”
  • “I’m not sure if I belong in tech— I wish I saw more people like me leading this industry!”

This event is open to all adults 18+, designed in a way that seeks to explicitly welcome people with underrepresented genders—this includes cis women, trans women, trans men, non-binary people, and others who are marginalized because of their gender identity or expression.

We believe that addressing the gender gap in tech is just one part of building digital equity. A more just and equitable future for technology in Canada means building programming that supports, empowers, and equips all learners who historically have been—and continue to be—underrepresented in tech, particularly Black, Indigenous and other Racialized learners, people in low-income communities and newcomer learners.

If this sounds like you, we can’t wait to have you learn with us.
