About this event

Welcome to the Know Her Name - Film Screening event!

Please note: Doors open at 6; Screening starts at 6:50

Join us in Ottawa for an evening of powerful storytelling at the Library and Archives Canada - Public Archives and National Library Building. This event will feature the screening of Know Her Name, an upcoming documentary produced by Ottawa-based production companies, Creatorland Inc. and Pelee Entertainment.

Know Her Name delves into the legacy of filmmakers and uncovers the mysteries behind why women, especially women from underrepresented communities have been forgotten in discussions of film, erased through HISTORICAL AMNESIA – and, how to make sure this doesn’t continue to happen to contemporary filmmakers from diverse backgrounds, now and in the future.

Post-Screening

After the screening, we'll feature a short panel conversation featuring Librarian & Archivist at Library & Archives Canada, Leslie Weir, Director of Know Her Name, Zainab Muse, and Producer of Know Her Name, Heidi Lasi.

We'd also like to receive feedback from attendees about the storytelling in the documentary as we continue to work to finalize it. So, we'll share a google form link shortly before and after event for feedback.

Tickets

Before we complete our documentary ahead of its television debut in early 2025, we'd like to raise some additional funding through ticket sales to support us in sourcing additional archival materials we need to complete the story in the documentary.

So, while the event is free to attend, we hope you'll consider it a "pay what you can" event and support our goal to remember the inspirations from our past and to create a better future for women filmmakers.

Get ready to be moved and motivated by the stories in Know Her Name. And don't miss this opportunity to celebrate and honor the incredible women who have made a difference.

See you there!
