Fall In Love With Lagers All Over Again.
I have a secret. I’m in love… with lager! Actually, I’ve loved lagers as long as I’ve loved beer. Sure, over the years, IPAs occasionally seized my attention with their seductive hop profiles; Saisons have definitely earned themselves a farmyard fling or two; and I usually can’t stop myself from saying “Oui!” to a Belgian beer. But in the end, no matter what other beer style catches my fancy for a time, I always find myself returning to my first love: lagers.
I’m not the only person professing a love for lagers these days. The hottest craft beer trend since Hazy IPAs has to be the foamy side pour, which originated in Czechia and found its way over to North America over the past several years. More and more breweries in BC are installing special Lukr side-pour taps and offering special foamy pours of their Czech-style lagers.
Yeah baby, lagers are cool, they’re rad, they’re hip, and they’re here to stay.
Join me for an evening of Lager Love. I have put together a selection of some of my favourite lagers from breweries in British Columbia and beyond. Over the course of this tasting, you will taste six different lagers, including a special side-pour from the host, Abandoned Rail Brewing. I’ll talk about each beer and what makes it special and unique. But be warned — by the end of the evening you might just fall in love… with lagers.
This is a great opportunity to whet your appetite as you go into the annual Okanagan Fest of Ale, happening in Penticton on April 11th and 12th.
