About this event

Friday 6pm-8pm and Saturday 10am-2pm

Learn how to weave cloth on a simple rigid heddle loom in this weaving workshop for beginners!

ABOUT THE CLASS

Working with a neutral palette of silks, imported cotton and linen in a warm studio atmosphere you will weave beautiful, textural cloth in a choose your own adventure style.

The looms will be set up and prepared for you. You can choose to weave a longer scarf or a collection of 2-3 towels. Amanda will help you choose textures, design ideas and colour choices to make weaving simple and satisfying.

On Friday evening we'll begin with an introduction to the loom and materials, and a conversation about what qualities you enjoy in cloth before getting started with weaving. You'll be offered design suggestions and material recommendations and be able to use Amanda's sample library to see how your cloth might turn out.

Saturday will be a dedicated and supportive weaving day. In all you will weave up to 2 yards of cloth which you can divide into 2-3 towels or keep whole as a scarf. Finishing techniques will be discussed with options for sewn hems and non-sewn hems options.

Amanda's approach to weaving is grounded in technique but invites experimentation and marks of the maker. This practice based approach is gentle and inclusive of all levels of experience.
