Koji promises to deliver an exhilarating musical voyage that will thrill the audience. This performance will be part of this years Northern Arts Festival.
Born in Kyoto, Japan, Koji’s life has been deeply intertwined with music from the very beginning. Growing up in a culturally rich environment, he was influenced by an eclectic mix of Japanese traditional music, American pop and rock, and the dynamic sounds of jazz fusion. In April 2004, he took a transformative step by moving to Toronto, a city renowned for its diverse and vibrant jazz scene. Immersing himself in this creative hub, Koji drew inspiration from celebrated musicians, including his mentor, the acclaimed guitarist Reg Schwager, who played a pivotal role in encouraging him to explore the rich rhythms and harmonies of Brazilian music.
In 2010, Koji graduated with honors from the prestigious Humber College jazz program, solidifying his foundation as a skilled and versatile musician. Since then, he has collaborated with a wide range of artists, continually evolving his artistry. Currently, under the mentorship of renowned guitarist Bruce Forman, Koji is honing his mastery of bebop and the intricate chordal textures reminiscent of big band arrangements.
