Dr. George Tolomiczenko is the founding Executive Director of the Merkin Institute for Translational Research at Caltech. George is a Canadian who returned to Caltech after graduating forty years earlier with a self-designed degree in bioengineering. His innovations in program development and evaluation began following his doctoral training as a research-oriented clinical psychologist in Boston. They have included designing large projects on housing approaches for homelessness persons with mental illness, strategies for technology-based regional economic development, philanthropic funding of research, partnerships for research talent development and programs linking engineering and medicine. For his RI-MUHC Distinguished Lecture Series talk, he will draw from his portfolio-career in both the US and Canada to offer real-life Aesopian tales rich in lessons on fostering innovation designed to survive the journey from identifying and choosing a need to establishing a sustainable solution.
