MAMA BEAR PRIDE

Camp Misabe is happy to announce the first annual Mama Bear's Pride event!

This land-based event is intended to be the first of many to gather Indigenous and non-Indigenous 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, families, loved ones, communities, support persons and service providers. Our goal is to foster inclusion, promote community and generational healing, as well as embrace and celebrate loved ones, friends and family who identify as Two Spirit, Trans and 2SLGBTQIA+ living within the Algonquin community of Kitigan Zibi and beyond.

Throughout the June weekend, Two Spirit speakers and influencers, Indigenous mental and substance health experts, as well as traditional knowledge keepers, will be invited to share their stories and wisdom. Attendees are also welcome to participate in several family-friendly activities including a river float, beach volleyball tournament, Indigenous food vendors, Social events, and a drag show! An elder will be present the entire weekend to provide a safe space on the property - the high point or “mountain” of the camp, which will serve as the centre of healing at the heart of this event. There will be circles throughout the weekend that will foster healing, inclusion and healthy dialogue. The weekend will focus on emotional, spiritual, mental and physical healing and growth. We hope that we come together at Camp Misabe "Where Giants Walk" - in respect, love, understanding and support of one another.

2SLGBTQIA+ Indigenous youth and their families and community members will be given the opportunity to listen, love, laugh and grow on the land of Camp Misabe. This family event is being hosted as a drug and alcohol-free event which we hope to provide a safe space of healing and growth for 2SLGBTQIA+ Indigenous youth and their families. This event is being created in celebration of and guided by the Youth and families who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ with a focus on Indigenous language and culture and teachings. Youth have identified that there is a need for safe and non-judgemental events to take place for longer than a few hours. Mama Bear Pride seeks to bring change and healing to our youth during PRIDE MONTH for generations to come by providing this healthy healing event.
