Kashif Parvaiz - Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at University Health Network (UHN)

Kashif Parvaiz is a seasoned Cyber Security executive with over 20 years experience managing security programs for large private and public sector organizations in the Energy, Education and Healthcare sectors. Mr. Parvaiz is currently the Regional Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the Toronto Regional Security Operations Centre (RSOC) overseeing cyber security for the largest hospital group in Canada.

In his career, Mr. Parvaiz has overseen the implementation of successful enterprise wide security awareness, vulnerability management, security operations and incident response programs. In addition, Mr. Parvaiz has developed, managed and maintained long term Cyber roadmaps to raise organizational Cyber maturity levels in provincial public sector organizations.

As a CISO, Mr. Parvaiz reports to senior executives and board members on a regular basis and has the ability to represent security posture and risk in business terms. Mr. Parvaiz is active in the Cyber community and has lead thought leadership roundtable discussions for Gartner, Palo Alto, Crowdstrike and is on the advisory board for NKST, a local organization that brings cyber professionals together. Finally, Mr. Parvaiz holds many industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCISO and CRISC as well as an MBA.

Garth Foster - Senior Partner at Fasken

Garth Foster is a partner with the law firm Fasken Martineau and is extensively involved in the investment funds, registration and securities law areas

Mr. Foster’s practice is focused on investment funds, registration and regulatory compliance. He also works with both public and private investment funds, including exchange-traded funds.

Frequently advises clients on the creation of new funds and associated matters. Mr. Foster has also been involved in drafting fund documents, advisory agreements and distribution materials. He has drafted numerous applications for exemptive relief, and has been involved in various mutual fund and regulatory acquisitions.

Mr Foster also provides ongoing compliance and registration advice to advisors, dealers and investment fund managers, including mock audits.

A frequent commentator on policy initiatives in the investment funds, registration and regulatory compliance law areas, Mr Foster’s practice has been recognized by the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and Best Lawyers.

Daanish Samadmoten is a Partner in Fasken’s Privacy and Cybersecurity Group. Daanish frequently advises clients on various privacy and cybersecurity matters by providing practical and strategic advice in respect of data breach incidents, privacy compliance, and privacy litigation.

Daanish has assisted numerous clients in addressing privacy and cybersecurity incidents, including by advising clients about their legal obligations and litigation risks, reporting to privacy regulators, working with forensic and data management experts, and drafting external communications.

Daanish is a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM). Daanish was recognized in 2022 as One to Watch in Privacy and Data Security Law by Best Lawyers, in 2024 as a Stand-out Lawyer by Thomson Reuters, in 2024 for Data Protection & Privacy by Lexpert, and in 2024 as a Future Star by Benchmark Litigation.

Octavia N. Howell - Chief Information Security Officer, Equifax Canada Co.

Recognized as one of the 2022 Top 20 Women in Canada, Octavia Howell has spent her career protecting some of the world’s largest financial institutions from cyber-attacks. Today, she serves as Equifax Canada’s Chief Information Security Officer and is the Founder and CEO of Augustus Redefined, an organization focused on the advancement of Black Women in Cybersecurity. Octavia believes that a security leader should mentor, motivate trust, and lead their teams to act with integrity and openness. Octavia genuinely believes that we are placed on this earth to help each other achieve greatness (whatever that may be).

Mehak Wani is currently Leading the Business Information Security Office and IT Compliance Management for key Business Units at Interac. She has over 8 years of experience predominantly in Financial Sector focusing on IT/Cyber Risk Management, Cyber Strategy, Cyber Operating Models, Global regulations like ISO27001, NIST, PCI DSS. Mehak has an Engineering degree and a Masters Degree in Information and Cyber Security.

Zaki Abbas - Senior Vice President & Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Brookfield Asset Management

Zaki is currently the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Brookfield Asset Management. He has been with Brookfield since 2017 and has approximately 20 years of experience in information security and IT risk management in the insurance, banking, investment management and IT services sectors.

Prior to joining Brookfield, Zaki served as the CISO at Economical Insurance for two years and held the position of Information Security Officer at Great-West Life for nine years. Additionally, he has approximately 10 years of experience in various IT roles at IBM.

Zaki graduated from York University with a combined Honours Degree in Computer Science and Economics. He also holds the following security certifications:

• Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
