Learn more about Elder Heather:
Kiskino humakew'iskwew Heather Myhre is Otipemisiwak nêyhiyaw michif educator and artist that lives on the unceded traditional territories of Squamish, Musqueam and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. Her Red River kinship ties are Inkster and Taylor who went west to northern Saskatchewan and were later displaced due to colonization. Kiskino completed her MEd in Indigenous Education in 2020 and recently retired from teaching for more that two decades. She currently works as an Indigenous Education Consultant and Artist. Kiskino is honoured to have learned, and continues to learn, from Michif Elders, Knowledge Keepers and Artisans across Turtle Island. She shares traditional oral Michif stories of the past, present and future through beading, painting, jigging and finger weaving for Métis families, and all students and educators across BC. While most of her art is shared in educational settings she loves creating at home for friends and family.
